Name: | Lethe ~ Λήθη |
---|---|
Birthdate: | Jan 11 |

Winding through the cave of the slumbering Hypnos and along the border of Elysium flows the peaceful waters of Lethe, the river of forgetfulness. Her soft murmuring induces a carefree grogginess and a soothing song of oblivion. The recently deceased drink of her waters and wipe away the memories of their former lives and troubles. Then the dead may truly be at peace in the Underworld, without worries of what and who they left behind. And for those to be reincarnated, drinking from the river was necessary before starting life anew.
The goddess personifying the river's powers and the guardian of its waters, Lethe is a daughter of Eris and one of the kakodaimones unleashed into the world from Pandora's Box. She's also one of five rivers residing in Hades. Some mystery religions have sought to evade her grasp and wished to drink from the pool of Mnemosyne instead, while others have stumbled quite willingly into her arms.
With gently whispered promises of peaceful, worry-free eternity, Lethe is talented at lulling people into a (sometimes false) sense of security and numbing their fears. If you're able to find her, she's a good shoulder to cry on and she's a very attentive listener, eagerly taking in anyone's sob stories. There's nothing seemingly threatening about her at all, and it is easy to mistake her as harmless, the far less violent of the kakodaimone siblings and the quietest amongst the rivers. Who would ever suspect somebody so soft and blissfully detached of anything malicious? Oblivion can sound dangerously inviting, and once you've fallen into her grasp, you've already forgotten that you're supposed to be fighting back.
